Wearable Toth!

In this space we’ve been remiss in mentioning that the previous website devoted to the art and life of Alex Toth was replaced months ago by a fresh site, one that is officially sanctioned and governed by the Genius’s family members. www.alexandertoth.com features a brief gallery of Toth’s artwork; short bios of each of his four children; and ordering capability for the powerful book written by Alex’s senior child, Dana, about the evolution of her relationship with her father, titled, My Father, My Faith.

We’ve maintained a relationship with the Toth family for slightly over fifteen years, when we began work on the Harvey Award-winning Genius, Isolated in partnership with Dana and her siblings, Carrie, Eric, and Damon. That project had not been underway for long before we realized our initial plan for a one-volume look at Alex’s career was wholly inadequate to the task. We expanded our vision into what became a trilogy, with both companion volumes, Genius, Illustrated and Genius, Animated, becoming Eisner winners in their respective years (click any image throughout for a solo view.).

During the latter years of the 2010s we continued to partner with the Toth family, first to offer readers Alex’s opus, Bravo for Adventure, in a variety of sizes and formats, followed by Treasures Retold, a cross-section of rare Toth comics and animation work.

The Toths realize that though The Library of American Comics has contributed to telling their father’s story and preserving a wide selection of his art (we stood on the shoulders of other efforts released across the decades by folks such as Denis Kitchen, Manuel Auad, and John Hitchcock, among others), there is still more that can be done. Their site states, “We Welcome Projects That Speak to the Legacy, Integrity, & Creativity of Our Father and His Work,” and provides guidelines and contact information for any entity wishing to launch such projects.

Finally, the site sells Toth t-shirts in almost a dozen different designs. I am lucky enough to own a pair of them, and you can see them below, first displayed together and then individual “zoom-ins”:

All shirts come in the normal range of sizes, and I can attest to the quality of the fabric, as well as to the fact that they wear softly and comfortably. The effect of the imagery, of course, speaks for itself!

One of the shirts asks, “What Would Toth Do?” I suspect he’d be proud and honored if you paid a visit to www.alexandertoth.com …
