… And a Merry New Year! (Bonus Part 6a)

We decided to complete our Happy Holidays series with a bonus entry. The year 2025 marks the quarter pole of the 21st Century; to some of us, it seems like only yesterday when the new century was a’borning. This realization drove us to travel back in time to share with you these strips from January 1, 2001*.

In this amusing selection you’ll find themes such as wild New Years Eve parties, college football Bowl games, “blue flu,” and New Years resolutions. May your Welcome 2025 parties be boisterous and fun, and may your resolutions stick like glue!

(* Yes, the first day of the 21st Century was indeed January 1, 2001, not 2000 — purists know the calendar starts counting upward with the year 1, not the year 0, so the first decade is composed of the years 1-10. Carry that forward a few millennia and you get to the start of the 21st Century on … January 1, 2001.)

Whether or not you’re a calendar purist, as a comic strip purist you’ll likely want to return to this space early in 2025, when we travel in space rather than in time in order to bring you some eye-catching images from a recent release en français. Until then, once again — Happy New Year from The Library of American Comics!
