Cause for Celebration! The Complete CORTO MALTESE by Hugo Pratt is finally available in English!

“Simultaneous waves of joy and sadness surround Hugo Pratt’s Corto Maltese: Mu – The Lost Continent,” says Jeff Vaughn at Scoop. “There is good cause for celebration in that this dreamlike, frequently surreal installment of the adventures of Pratt’s title figure and its excellent new translation by Dean Mullaney and Simone Castaldi. The remorse that follows, at least temporarily, is that this is the last volume in the series.

“Overall, the joy triumphs over the sadness because now we have these incredible volumes to read and reread.

“For this final voyage, Pratt’s epic series returns to the search for the lost continent of Mu, the mythical Atlantis. All of the familiar elements – and a number of old characters, including Rasputin – from the series are there, but it’s as if Pratt had been leading up to this one all along.

“I feel like starting over with the first volume again and working all the way through.”

Co-translator Simone Castaldi proudly displays the entire series. Simone, who was born in Italy and read CORTO from when he was young, says:

“We did it. Six years! I’m SO proud of having been part of this. A dream come true!”

(Simone has another reason to celebrate. On September 1, he was promoted from Associate Professor to FULL Professor of Romance Languages and Literature at Hofstra University! — Congrats, Professore!)

Congrats, that’s one heck of a job. Dick Tracy is next. With all these series ending, what’s 2021 going to look like for LOAC? If I may suggest, please revisit some Flash Gordon. Would be cool if you picked up where Titan comics left off.
